At Gobena, we are passionate about everyone having the opportunity to make a difference. One way to do this is by drinking great coffee for a great cause. Our coffee beans are purchased fresh and in season directly from the farmer. For example, when our Colombian partner harvests their coffee and finishes the drying process, we import the dried green coffee beans as soon as possible. Once the beans arrive, we small batch roast them. When we say fresh, we truly mean fresh.

We believe that coffee beans should be roasted to bring out their original flavor. Each bean has different flavor notes and requires specific roast temperatures and times. Roasting in small batches allows us to roast each bean to its full potential. Compared to over-roasted coffee that many drinkers are accustomed to, our coffee avoids the burnt taste as we use high-quality, in-season beans.

Our coffee is roasted on a Joper Roaster, manufactured in Canelas, Portugal. Joper has been making quality roasters since 1962, combining the genuine quality of the European Old World with the most recent technology. Joper symbolises performance, quality and value, giving us a competitive advantage. All of our coffee is roasted and packed the same day to ensure maximum freshness.

100% of Gobena's profits go towards helping orphaned and vulnerable children throughout the world. We partner with Lifesong for Orphans to work with at-risk children and young adults. This commitment was inspired by the story of Gobena, an elderly Ethiopian farmer who rescued and cared for an abandoned baby girl in 2007. Unable to fully provide for her needs, Gobena and his wife carried the baby 5 miles to town where she was given food and shelter. This act of love inspired the adoptive family to start Gobena Coffee, with all net profits donated to Lifesong for Orphans.
